Because We All Need A Little More Grace
God will listen to you.
“Then you will call upon Me and come and pray to Me, and I will listen to you.”Jeremiah 29:12
But can I know God’s plans, any of them? Does an Almighty Jehovah God really care what my life is like day in and day out? Will He listen to me? We ask these questions and others like them on a regular basis. And that’s good. There is no question that is too big or difficult for God to answer even in the Year 2020!
Sadly though, we often are not humble enough, faithful enough or courageous enough to listen to and then act upon His answer. Like Peter walking on the water, we focus too much on the storms raging around us and our own ideas of how to survive so that we take our eyes off Jesus and sink miserably into despair and hopelessness. We are not alone in this cycle of defeat.
That is exactly what happened to the captives of Babylon during Jeremiah’s time and why God told Jeremiah to write His message of guidance and hope to these desperate exiles whose main question was, “God, where are you?” And God’s response was, in essence and in my own words,
“I am right here with you where I’ve always been. Just call upon me, come to me, pray to me and I will listen to you.”
This new normal in the Year 2020 brings to humanity many hardships, many unknowns and many uncertainties. But for the Christian who has the very ear of God, our faith in the year He has planned is so much more than any virus or evil that comes our way. It is not blind faith, but confident assurance in our Savior and His promise to never leave us or forsake us.
